Invitation

The organizers of the XIV European Conference on Developmental Psychology have a great honour and pleasure of inviting you to take part in this conference to be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, August 18-22, 2009.

The European Society for Developmental Psychology was founded in 1994, aiming to support the interests of developmental psychologists working in Europe. Main objectives of ESDP are to govern the stimulation, support, and conduct of developmental research in the European context. A major institution in the pursuit of these goals is the European Conference on Developmental Psychology. This biennial conference offers a forum for researchers and all those who want to learn more about studying human development.

The conference will focus on the most relevant topics and issues within recent theoretical and methodological advances of developmental psychology, basic research and applied areas and will provide a forum for presentation of a wide range of papers in all aspects of human development in European contexts. Over and beyond basic research, we will put emphasis on the transfer of psychological insights to social policies and programme development.

The ECDP in Vilnius will continue a series of pre-conference Workshops on Methodological Advances in Developmental Research. They will involve recent advances that move developmental research designs beyond traditional methods. Workshops will be designed mostly to fit into needs of young researchers, but they also will be offered to all participants. Pre-conference workshops will be held on 17-18 August.

Currently, one pre-conference workshop is in the planning process. This workshop will bring together leading scientists from Europe and USA and will be devoted to Methodological issues in analysing longitudinal data. Prof. Brett Laursen (USA) is organizer of this workshop. The primary purpose of this workshop is to provide a much needed venue for a lively and open dialogue on various issues in longitudinal data analysis, and to identify important outstanding methodological problems on which to base collaborative research. At this workshop participants will have a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and build collaborative ties with other methodological researchers and researchers in other disciplines.

We are convinced that you will enjoy the beauty of Lithuania and the charming atmosphere of historical city of Vilnius. We cordially invite you to take our country and city to your heart.

We look forward to meeting you in Vilnius in 2009!

On behalf of the Organizing Committee,

Professor Rita Zukauskiene
